Tell us about your business, what do you do?
Kitchens U Build, owned and operated by myself Stacey, and my husband Garrett, as business partners. We design, supply and install all cabinetry to fit out any home. Primarily kitchen, laundry and vanity cabinetry. We offer a range of high-quality materials ready to assemble that are Australian and custom-made to suit all budgets. To fit the cabinetry in the space perfectly, we undertake onsite visits to see the space and converse with the customer directly, taking down all the measurements. Offering a high quality product and service is paramount and giving our clients choice is important. We take the hassle out of the project from start to finish. Taking care of the design layout, to the rip out and installation of the old and new cabinetry. We now also offer deliveries with our own truck which has has moved us to the next level. We can help further by project managing the renovation if the customer requires this service, where we can book the plumber and electrician to ensure the disconnection and reconnection goes smoothly. The customer service and high level of communication we have with them is how we are achieving our 5 star reviews and we are highly proud of this.
We moved our young family of four to be positioned in an area that would give our new business the best chance at success and we have been overwhelmed with the wonderful people we have met and the fantastic feedback we have been given. Where I take charge of the showroom staff, workload management and business sector with my team, Garrett works with his team to ensure the finished installation is 100% satisfactory. We are so very passionate about our business and the growth it will have based on the belief we have in our product and how well we all work as a team.
Why did you choose to go into business?
Garrett has worked hands on as a Sole Trader installer for Kitchens U Build Bayswater, Carrum Downs and Pakenham prior to us opening our franchise for 5 years. This grew a great rapport between the franchisor and ourselves and gave us great insight into the operations and products that the company had to offer. This relationship opened up an opportunity to become a franchisee of U Build – a company we already knew and believed in.
What have been your biggest hurdles and biggest wins so far?
Opening the franchise to begin with was a hurdle in itself, having to complete the fit out of the showroom and have all of the display kitchens installed before the grand opening date. The balance of managing the business in all aspects and family life has been difficult to ensure our two young boys also get our attention – all in all time management will always be a hurdle.
The biggest wins by far are the satisfied customers, when we receive the feedback on how happy they are with the quality of the products, the level of customer service from the all staff as well as how easy the process is will never get old. It’s so satisfying to see the professional photos of the finished cabinetry installed – the whole team love it.
How have RBK helped you along the way?
RBK is where I go to manage my accounting for personal and business as they have our best interests at heart in regards to the stability of our financial position. They have been amazing in financial support and tax planning. The ensure that at the end of the financial year and throughout, all is in place.
What do you think are the essentials in any great kitchen?
When planning for a new kitchen we all have our “must have’s”. It is our goal to provide a high quality product that is durable and suitable for the customers budget. The kitchen design we set out to achieve with each customer is a layout that is practical for the individual and is suitable for the size and space they have. Looking at these “must have’s” generally includes finding the right location for a pull-out bin near the preparation area and allowing for the size of the customers chosen appliances.
The ready to assemble cabinetry we provide comes with an installation guide for those who would like to complete their own cabinetry installation.
