As you would’ve heard, we were fortunate enough to bring on a fourth Director to the team at the beginning of this year. Anthony Turner comes with a plethora of accounting and business advisory experience and knowledge to add to our growing business. We had a chat to him about why he chose accounting, and what he loves outside of numbers.
Give us a brief overview of your education and career to date?
I studied at RMIT University completed Bachelor of Business (Accountancy). Extra study and qualifications include CPA Modules, CPA Public Practice Certificate, becoming a Fellow of CPA Australia, Tax Agent, ASIC Agent, NTAA Member, Xero Partner, MYOB Certified Consultant, Macquarie Leasing Accredited Introducer, NAB Accredited Introducer, CBA Accredited Introducer and BOQ Accredited Introducer. The list is getting long!
My career comes with a mixture of corporate and public practice experience. I did nearly 10 years at Rio Tinto, and then moved into a South Melbourne firm doing accounting and business advisory. After 3 years there I started my own business and managed that successfully for 18 years. Now, RBK!
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting the interesting people on their journeys to success, and being able to help them along the way. Learning about their ideas and contributing to their work and business life never gets old, I love it. Working with team members that are on the same wavelength and who you consider close mates is so enjoyable too. The whole vibe of RBK drew me to my new position- we genuinely are doing a different take on accounting and business advisory and I can’t wait to get going in this new environment.
What’s most important to you outside of work?
My beautiful family. Wife Janine, Liam who’s 17 and a champion musician, Bridgette who’s 15. She’s a beautiful genius. And Jack who’s 13 and he’s a legendary skater and surfer.
Any amazing life experiences so far?
I’ve been on many surf trips including Bali, Mentawai Islands and Banyak Islands off Sumatra. I’ve been to the US and Europe as a younger lad (with a backpack on). Recently I went with my wife and kids to the US again, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. I rode an Enduro Motorbike across the Simpson Desert (with 4 riders in total, and 3 support vehicles carrying fuel, food and water). What an incredible experience.
What does your ideal weekend look like?
Dinner and drinks with friends on Friday night, up and down the coast for a surf on the Saturday morning. I’d stay at our Lorne house overlooking the ocean with my family, drinking a beer for the rest of the day…and then finish with another surf in perfect 6-foot waves at Cathedral Rock. Heaven!
