4 things to reset in the New Year

If you’re waiting for a push in the right direction, nothing delivers motivation like a new year! Your resolutions don’t have to stop at your personal life, consider how you can reset and refresh your business for the best year yet.

Review your goals for the new year and look back on your business plan, what did you do well and what can you do better going forward?

We’re starting with an easy one. You know that business plan you worked on in the baby stages of your business (if no, catch up here) Get it out again and remind yourself of your goals and why you are doing what you’re doing. Your mission, vision & values should all be front of mind when you self-review the year and prepare for a big 2019!

Sometimes, the only way to go forward is to look back so be honest with yourself and map out what worked in the last year and what didn’t when outlining your 2019 business goals. Business plans are also there to be adjusted as your grow and change so if there are some adaptions to be made, this is a great time to do it.

If you’re needing a hand with this process because so much has happened in the last year your head is reeling, or maybe not enough has happened and you aren’t sure where to go from here, book in a session with us and let’s work on it together.

Consider your tax position

Yes, it’s only the beginning of 2019 but before you know it you’ll be saying ‘I can’t believe how quick the year is going’ and June 30 will be here. Use January as a reminder that you only have six months to get your tax in order for the 2019 financial year. Are you up to date with your tax savings? If not, touch base with us and we can work with you to put a tax savings budget in place.

The Christmas period often puts a strain on small business owners, and even though you can reach out to us anytime during the year, now is an important time to remember we are here for you in the good times and when the times get a little tougher than usual.

Consider your own health and wellbeing, use the new year to begin implementing healthy workplace habits for you and your team.

We know you’ve heard it all before but the new year is the perfect time to check in on your mental and physical health and that of your team. It doesn’t have to mean setting unrealistic exercise goals for yourself or swearing off the beers – it just means making small adjustments to optimise the health and happiness of you and your team.

These changes could be organising a yoga or meditation session once a month for everyone, opting for walking meetings when possible rather than sit down meetings, or encouraging healthy food choices by providing a communal fruit bowl in the office… or delicious nut snacks from our mates at Tuckr!

Consider your marketing strategy and up your own networking with other business owners

If your business isn’t on socials yet, you have permission to close this tab, open Instagram and make a business account! With over 80% of the population active on social media, you’re losing business if you’re not onto it.

Consider a landscaper who uses Instagram to showcase their work, not only are they relying on word of mouth, but the potential new business is easier to convert when a portfolio of work can be viewed from a phone!

If you are using social media for your business but it’s become a bit neglected over the past few months make it a priority to either get back on track with it or find someone to help you out with it. We put the right amount of time and effort into our social media and the results speak for themselves. If you’d like to discuss your broader marketing strategy please reach out, we’re more than just accountants 😉

If you are happy with your business’ social media presence, maybe it’s time to look at your own. Building your personal brand and personal social networks could come with a wealth of opportunities this year, make it a goal!
