Question: What do Patagonia, Etsy, Ben and Jerry’s and RBK Advisory all have in common?
Answer: They are all B Corp certified companies!
And while we may not be on the A list of B Corp companies just yet, we’re very excited to announce that we have recently been awarded full B Corp certification!
In our (paperless) books, being one of only three Australian accounting firms to qualify is kind of a big deal.
So what is the B Corp certification?
The B Corp or B Corporation certification is a private certification issued by B Lab to companies who focus on balancing their profits with their purpose.
Measuring a company’s social and environmental performance through things like diversity in the workplace, carbon emissions produced, ethical choices and transparency. B Corp certified businesses are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, suppliers, community and the environment.
The B Corp certification was built on driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good.
Why were we awarded certification?
We qualified for B Corp by undertaking the B Impact assessment. This goes through all the details of the policies and procedures that make up your business (down to things like the taps you have in your offices!)
We proudly achieved a score of 95/100 on the impact assessment which we attribute to our ongoing efforts to make RBK a business that’s both friendly to its people and the environment.
Things such as:
- Being a paperless business
- Using co-working spaces that are also environmentally compliant
- Employing locally
- Providing competent training and education for our tea
- Flexibility for our team
- Age, gender and racial diversity all contributed to our fantastic score.
Why undertake the B Impact Assessment
Being B Corp certified now means that we have a framework to support our ongoing mission to do good! We also found the certification process to be a great opportunity to review the areas of the business that we wanted to improve.
B Corp certification sends a clear message to the world about the type of business and brand you are, and where your values and priorities lie. It also comes with access to an incredible like-minded tribe of businesses that support each other through discounts and incredible speaking events.
